My Story

What Art Means

The context...

2023 saw the fade of my passion for art. I got my A* at school, had the second highest mark in my year group, practised everything from using oils to 3D modelling. For the purpose of studying fine art, every week I had to self-teach myself a new media style along with getting familiar with new materials I originally had never heard of beforehand. My weekends were consumed by pursuing media I didn't want to create as I had to go down a predetermined path of topic and design set by the exam board to achieve my grade. There was no time to feel what I was creating and understand what it meant to me - until I discovered acrylic fluid art.

The beginning...

I completed my first fluid art piece in that same year, for my final project that would earn me that A*. The project gave me time to understand what I was creating on a deeper level. But afterwards, I didn't create anything for years. After years of daily pressure and high expectations to constantly meet, it felt like I could finally breathe. At the time I only viewed art as something visual as to an examiner it mattered about what it looked like - with energy, passion, and emotion not being accounted for.

The revival...

Slowly from late 2025 to early 2026, creative spark and passion returned as I decided to fill the empty walls in my room by creating the way I wanted to - which was a big thing for me. I learned that this really is part of who I am. I just had to experience the freeing feeling of choosing my own path.

The message...

That's what my work means to me; being able to go down a path that I've chosen myself. Aside from its premium visual appeal, I found that my Fluid Art also represents that story. When you see my acrylic pours, I apply paint to the canvas in pathway shapes. They're never straight or the same. Don't let anyone take your passion away by putting you onto a straight or identical path to them. Additionally, this technique's flowing nature and inability to be repeated again translates how I feel about what art really is about; creation for me is a means of rejecting confinement and I hope when you see my work you also see those words translated onto the canvas.

What do you see? I'd love to know.
